Course Overview

The Pneumatics course is designed to introduce students to Pneumatics as it relates to industrial machinery and controls. The topics include:

  • Area, Force and Pressure
  • Air Preparation
  • Directional Valves
  • Check Valves, Cylinders and Motors
  • Control of Pneumatic Energy
  • Various Means of Actuation
  •  Calculating Speed, Flow and Time
  • Sizing Cylinders
  • Calculating Energy
  • Design Reciprocating Circuits
  • System Design and Layout
  • Electrical Limits and Pneumatic Limits

Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to do basic pneumatics system design and layout. Students will also be able to assemble basic pneumatic circuitry, using various means of actuation. In addition, students will be able to assemble and operate the robot shown below.
