Course Description
This advanced level PLC course develops high-level competencies in industrial automation, focusing on complex ladder logic, structured text, function block programming, industrial networking, safety systems, and integration with SCADA/HMI platforms. Students design, implement, troubleshoot, and document complete automation systems using Allen Bradley ControlLogix, Siemens S7-1500, and IEC 61131-3 compliant environments.
Prerequisites
- Intermediate PLC Programming
- Industrial Controls
- Electrical Schematics
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will be able to:
Design and implement advanced PLC programs using Ladder, ST, FBD, and SFC according to IEC 61131-3 standards.
Integrate PLCs with industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP) and configure communication between multi-vendor systems.
Develop and deploy safety-rated logic using GuardLogix, safety relays, and risk reduction methodologies compliant with CSA Z432 and Z434.
Create fully functional HMI/SCADA interfaces using FactoryTalk View, Ignition, or WinCC.
Interpret, modify, and generate electrical schematics for advanced automation systems.
Diagnose and resolve complex PLC faults, network issues, and system-level failures using structured troubleshooting methodologies.
Document automation systems using professional engineering standards, including I/O lists, tag databases, sequence of operations, and validation reports.
